The World Championships hope from Sweden, William Poromaa, is missing the national team training camp in Åre this week due to a severe injury.

“It has been a bit difficult with one of his knees since May – and at the end, it has gotten worse,” says Swedish national team coach Lars Ljung to Expressen.

“The camp has the main focus on quantity and capacity. It is also positive that Åre is favorable when it comes to the opportunity to collect altitude meters,” said national team coach Anders Högberg in a press release before the camp.

Instead of training camp in Åre, William Poromaa will train at home.

“We decided that William should stay at home. This is a camp where we run a lot,” says the national team’s Lars Ljung, who is also Poromaa’s personal coach, to Expressen.

Knee problem bothers the Swedish cross-country skiing hope

“It’s a so-called ‘runner’s knee,’ and we think it came after the spring bike training. He has been sitting a little too low when cycling and thus put a load on his knees,” says Lars Ljung for Expressen.

“We have had to make some adjustments; the running goes away. But he can go roller skiing and also go uphill on the roller skiing track.”

It is not yet clear how long Poromaa will have to avoid running, but Lars Ljung hopes that he will soon be able to start sneaking in some running. The goal is to run properly in the fall.

And it is not only William Poromaa who misses the camp in Åre. Due to colds, Anton Grahn, Emil Danielsson, and Leo Johansson are also absent.
