NTNUI Ski Team Continues to Combine Studies with Ski Classics

by Pressmeddelande • 16.01.2026
NTNUI Ski Team continues to blend student life with Ski Classics. This year’s team features several new athletes on paper.

This Norwegian Pro Team hails from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) and represents one of the most unique configurations in the Ski Classics Pro Tour. NTNUI Ski Team was founded in 2018 and stands out as a student-driven organization where both athletes and leaders balance their studies with professional cross-country skiing.

As they head into Season XVII, the team welcomes a new generation of ambitious skiers. Under the leadership of newly appointed Pro Team Director Aud Øyen Halås, NTNUI Ski Team consists of eight Norwegian athletes, including five women and three men. All athletes were born between 2001 and 2005, making this year’s lineup the youngest in the team’s history, filled with drive, energy, and determination to take the next step in long-distance racing.

“Living and studying in the same city allows us to train together every day, push each other, and build a strong team spirit that is just as important off the course as it is on race day,” says Pro Team Director and athlete Aud Øyen Halås.

Young Team

The student-led structure remains at the core of NTNUI Ski Team’s identity. Both athletes and management operate within the university environment, merging academic and athletic ambitions while carrying forward the 116-year legacy of Norway’s largest ski club for young adults. This unique combination of education and elite sports continues to shape the team’s philosophy and success in Ski Classics.

NTNUI Ski Team’s roster for Ski Classics Season XVII:
Mie Christine Stangeland Sørensen (2004), Aud Øyen Halås (2001), Julie Meinicke (2002), Aurora Wilkens Jernberg (2004), Ida Fuglenes Mathiesen (2003), Per Finstad (2005), Ferdinand Fremming (2002), and Ask Tveiten (2001).

By balancing lectures, labs, and long-distance races, NTNUI Ski Team demonstrates that academic excellence and athletic performance can go hand in hand.
