New shock in Julia Simon fraud scandal – Police uncover more victims

The fraud case surrounding French biathlon star Julia Simon has taken a dramatic new turn. After two years of investigation, police have uncovered new victims, making the allegations against the biathlete even more serious.

According to L’Équipe, investigators have discovered additional evidence in the case involving the ten-time World Champion: two more people are now listed as victims, in addition to the two who initially reported the fraud.

Simon is charged with fraud and theft after her national team colleague, Justine Braisaz-Bouchet, filed a police report accusing her of using her credit card for over €2,000. The 28-year-old is also alleged to have used a credit card belonging to a member of the team’s support staff for a smaller amount.

Both incidents reportedly took place during a national team camp in Sandnes in connection with the Blink Festival in 2022.

Now, two more cases have reportedly been uncovered. The trial is set to begin in Albertville on Friday, October 24.

If Julia Simon is found guilty, she faces up to five years in prison, a fine of €375,000, and extensive civil and financial consequences.

Destructive for the team

The scandal has deeply affected the French national team, despite attempts to resolve the matter internally.

“I tried to settle this within the team, with her and the association, but it didn’t work. I think the situation is incredibly sad, but I’ve taken responsibility. If I didn’t have proof, I wouldn’t have acted,” says Braisaz-Bouchet.

Simon responded:

“I signed a document to get the bank to reimburse Justine. It might seem like a confession, but I just wanted to put everything behind me. On a human level, it’s not easy,” says Simon, who has consistently maintained her innocence.

“Some teammates accuse me of destroying their trust. I have nothing to do with this. In December, I tried to explain the situation to them,” she adds.

New development

As both parties have declined to comment while awaiting the investigators’ final findings, the case has taken a new turn.

The criminal trial is still scheduled to begin in Albertville tomorrow, Friday, October 24. However, Simon’s lawyer, Maître Borel, has now requested a postponement of the trial, arguing that the 2026 Olympics are approaching.

Both Simon and Braisaz-Bouchet have reportedly been informed by the biathlon association that they remain in contention for Olympic selection.
