At the end of June, Anikken Gjerde Alnæs was hit by a car while roller skiing. The Pro Team star, who recently signed a contract with Team Engcon after four seasons with Team Ragde Charge, was brutally mowed down during training.

It turned out that she had shattered her kneecap on her right leg and had injuries to her thigh bone, and she was operated on at Aker Hospital for the injuries. Now, the Pro Team athlete is already back in alternative training.

“3 weeks have passed, and it’s moving forward. With good help at A-hus, I just had to get back on my feet on day 1 after the operation. After X number of calf raises, other training exercises, and crutch training, I have gotten out and found a good sitting position for the SkiErg,” Alnæs writes on her Instagram account and adds.

“However, the fact remains that I have a shattered kneecap that is patched together with a plate and screws, and it will take time before I can roll along the road and run in the mountains again.”

Long Road Back

But even though she is pleased with the progress she has made in the short time since the accident, she realizes that it is a long road back to the level she had before she was hit while roller skiing.

When Gjerde Alnæs can expect to return to roller skiing and regular training, she does not know.

But Gjerde Alnæs, who recently joined Ulvang’s Pro Team, Team Engcon, is determined to return to the ski track. In this regard, the team and those around her have been a great help, she says.

Super Talent

The 30-year-old from Rustad IL debuted in Ski Classics four years ago, in 2020. She had just delivered two top-10 finishes in sprints in the World Cup but was looking for something more. She found it in long-distance racing.

Already in her second season in Ski Classics, she was second in the fight for the Green Sprint bib. The following year, she won the sprint bib and finished ninth overall in Ski Classics. This year, she again finished second in the sprint competition despite having much of the season spoiled by illness.

But towards the end of the season, Alnæs delivered several strong performances. She was among the top six seven times, has two second-place finishes from Orsa as her best winter results, and ended the season with an overwhelming victory in Iceland at the Ski Classics Challengers event Fossavatnsgangan 2024.
